What is BeyondGPA?

BeyondGPA is all about showcasing student skills and capabilities to professors and future employers to help students find potential undergraduate research projects (URPs) and internships. The BeyondGPA platform contains two different aspects: Student Created Projects, Professor URPs.

Students can upload details about their personal projects, club projects, research experience, etc. Each project is tagged with different skills used, the major(s) for students who contributed, etc. Users can search these projects to see the skills, individual contributions of each contributor, and the challenges the users faced.

Professors can post URPs that are tagged with the same skills that students tag their projects with. Students can search to find the URPs that best match their skill sets. Helping connect professors with talented students that have aligned skill sets.

Technical Details

• Frontend: NextJS, React, TailwindCSS
  • Makes for super easy iteration and stateful interactions
• Middleware: Prisma, NextJS API Routes, NextAuth
  • Prisma: Abstracts the Database so that we don’t have to worry about SQL queries, and instead shipping more code
  • NextJS API Routes: Allows us to build an Express-Based API in the same place as our frontend while maintaining a client-server architecture.
  • NextAuth: Authentication and Session Management Framework for NextJS
• Backend: PostgreSQL, MinIO, OpenAI Moderation API
  • PostgreSQL: Simple and performant relational data storage
  • MinIO: Simple, S3-Compliant File Management System
  • OpenAI Moderation API: Free API for moderating content and detecting explicit content
